Air Force Board Statement on RAF Community Support Policy

The Air Force Board statement on RAF community support policy underpins the Royal Air Force community support organisation. All personnel must be aware of the statement, which is as follows:
  • All Serving personnel, whatever their rank, must know that there is a particular officer or SNCO to whom they may go for help and advice on any matter, whether it relates to their private or Service life, or in the case of the married Serviceman/woman, to their domestic affairs. It is in the interests of the Service and Service personnel that the individual should seek this help whenever their peace of mind or efficiency is suffering from undue anxiety or strain. Thus all officers and SNCOs should encourage their subordinates to look to them in the first instance for such help and advice. This obligation applies equally to civilian managers who have responsibility for Service personnel.

  • Whilst it is in the interests of all that such help should normally be sought in the first instance from within the chain of command, it is recognised that some personnel may prefer to seek help directly from other specialist staff, such as the Chaplain, the SMO, or a SSAFA Forces Help Social Worker. Clearly it is also important that officers and SNCOs who are faced with a subordinates problem that is beyond their competence should refer that problem to their Personnel Management staff or to one of the other professional agencies available to them, in order that the most appropriate and timely remedy can be found.

  • The welfare provision provided by the Service and other professional agencies is to be accessible equally to the dependants of serving personnel, whose morale and well-being have a direct bearing on the effectiveness of Service personnel.
Scope
This web site outlines the current range of community support facilities that are available. Individual stations may provide only some of these facilities as local circumstances and budgets dictate. If you are unable to find any information, please contact the webmaster .

Assumption
For the purposes of this web site, the definition of community support is restricted to that which helps Service personnel (and where applicable their spouse) to balance duty and domestic responsibility so that their ability to meet Service commitments is not unduly affected. It does not consider childcare, health care, sport and recreation or the provision of social clubs.
