Pension Service

The Government has set up a new service - The Pension Service, which is part of the Department for Work and Pensions. It has been set up to improve the service you receive, whether you are already a pensioner or are planning for your retirement, no matter how far off it might be.

Over the next two years, our improved service will be extended gradually to cover England, Scotland and Wales. At that stage, The Pension Service will have a local service supporting 26 pension centres. These will replace the current service provided by local social security offices.

Your pension centre will:
  • Work out the amount of State Retirement Pension and Minimum Income Guarantee that you are entitled to
  • Pay your entitlements to you and answer questions over the phone and by post (and by e-mail where possible)
  • Tell you how you can access other pension-related entitlements and services
  • Work in partnership with other local organisations to deliver pension-related services.
