Housing
Accommodation
Introduction Families Quarters Service personnel are eligible to apply for families accommodation which, in the UK, will normally be a quarter, but may be a hiring. Male and female members of the RAF have the same housing entitlement so all references in this section to "Serviceman" or "husband" applies equally to "Servicewoman/wife". Airman's Quarters There are 3 types of Airmen's Families Quarters (AFQs): Type B - 2 bedrooms; Type C - 3 bedrooms and Type D - 4 bedrooms. These are allocated according to the size of the family. The only exception is RAF Warrants Officers who are entitled to Type D AFQs. Officers Quarters Officers' Families Quarters (OFQs) are also divided into types, the most common being Type V - 3 bedrooms and Type IV - four bedrooms. Officers' quarters are allocated according to rank so that officers up to and including the rank of flight lieutenant will normally be allocated a Type V. Description of Accommodation Family Quarters vary considerably in age and condition and the RAF, through the Defence Estates (DE), attaches great importance to the living conditions of its people and houses are subject to continuous improvements and, where applicable, modernisation.
