Returning Home
Many people are surprised when we describe this as demanding but it can in fact be one of the most demanding aspects of a deployment. There are three stages to the return from deployment:
- Return
- Readjustment
- Reintegration
Just before the end of a deployment we tend to construct a 'fantasy' of what going home will be like. Often this fantasy never becomes reality. You have had to adjust whilst on deployment, the people important to you have had to adjust in your absence. When the two come together again we don't just readjust overnight, it takes time. In its mildest form being at home again may just seem strange, in the extreme cases, you and the people around you are noticeably irritated and arguing over the slightest of things. The reasons behind this are often the simple fact that the adjustments you and those close to you have made are at odds with each other now you are back together.
For most people returning home is one of the positive aspects of a deployment, but you must remember, people have to readjust and this can have its problems.
