Northern Ireland Legal Aid
Northern Ireland is a province forming part of the United Kingdom, in which it remained after the partition of Ireland earlier this century. It comprises most of the territory of the old province of Ulster (six out of eight counties, the two remaining forming part of the Republic of Ireland) and is sometimes called by this name. Its constitutional status is at present under discussion by the British and Irish governments and political parties in Northern Ireland. Its law resembles English law, but its LA scheme is run by the Law Society of Northern Ireland (the professional organisation representing Solicitors), not by an independent LA Board as elsewhere in the UK.
