Mental Health | Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health (SDC)

The SDC believes that mental ill health affects us all. The SDC shares the aspirations held by many in Scotland and elsewhere for people affected by mental ill health to have improved lives within our communities. Through the work it undertakes with others, the SDC aims to influence and enhance the mental health and quality of life of individuals, families and communities.

The SDC aims to promote and support the development of effective health and social care systems, through the provision of development support, advice and research.

To these tasks the SDC brings:
  • Knowledge - enabling others to apply knowledge of what works to the process of policy and practice development, drawing on research evidence and practice examples of different models and approaches.
  • Experience - through its formal and informal networks and contacts the SDC acts as a conduit to spread learning and facilitate the exchange of ideas.
  • Influence - contributing to the wider arena of community care, and health and social polcy in Scotland through links with the Scottish Executive and planners, providers and practitioners and by operating at the interface between policy formulation and implementation.
