What Causes Stress?
Stress occurs when pressures exceed an individual's ability to cope. Anyone who experiences too much pressure at work and/or at home will be stressed.
The following pressures at work may lead to stress:
- Inadequate training, equipment or resources.
- Unachievable workload within the given time-frame.
- Lack of control over the workload.
- Lack of variety in the work leading to boredom.
- Being unaware of the reason for carrying out the work.
- Mental and physical exhaustion due to lack of time away form the work environment.
- Unrealistic expectations of an individual's capability.
- Absence of opportunities for individuals to voice their concerns.
- Not being valued as a team member or as an individual.
