Insurance is always a sound idea whether it is for your possessions, to provide for unexpected death, a long-term investment or to help with buying a house. However, you must be careful that you take out the right policy for your needs, especially with regards to life assurance. Before you commit yourself to any form of insurance it is always worth seeking advice on the suitability of the policy from the Service Insurance and Investment Advisory Panel (Siiap) , which will give expert and unbiased advice on current as well as proposed policies. Household Insurance
Your household (including FQ items) and personal effects are valuable and should be insured against theft and damage. If your insurance only provides cover in the UK it needs to be changed if you are posted abroad. You can also, if you wish, insure your FQ against damage. Public Liability Insurance
An accident caused by any member of your family, or even your pet, could result in heavy damages being awarded against you by a court. This means that you might end up paying regular sums to the injured person for many years unless you take out insurance to cover the risk; it is not expensive.
