RAF Rowing Club

The Royal Air Force Rowing Club was formed in 1947 and has produced several Olympic representatives and Henley winners. Rowing has often been described as the ultimate team sport and success on the water is as much based on crew cohesion as it is on fitness. The majority of Royal Air Force rowers are introduced to the sport after they join the Service and there are few Stations that are not within easy reach of Club facilities.

Rowing is a year-round sport with long distance Head of the River Races against the clock taking place in the Winter and multi-lane regattas being held during the Summer months. The RAF Rowing Club competes at all levels from special events for those members in their first year of rowing through to crews representing the Service against the Army and Royal Navy, or competing at Henley Royal Regatta or the FISA World Veteran Masters Championships. Another important aspect is overseas tours and in recent years the Club has visited South Africa, Hong Kong, Spain and Sri Lanka.

The sport of rowing has enjoyed a surge in popularity during the last few years following British success at the Olympic Games and the Royal Air Force Rowing Club has benefited from this high profile. We aim to promote fitness and teamwork, and to offer challenges for athletes of all standards.
