HM Forces National Express Coach Discount Scheme

National Express Introduction
The Scheme offers discounts which include access to up to 30% discount on National Express fares in mainland Britain (dependent upon route and date of travel) through the purchase of a Forces’ specific discount card direct from National Express.

Eligibility
The following are eligible to use the Scheme:
  • All members of the regular forces (including medical, dental and university cadets) wherever they are stationed, R IRISH (Home Service Element), UK based members of the Brigade of Gurkhas, the NRPS of the Territorial Army, the Military Provost Guard Service, those who undergo training or carry out duties in peacetime in the Territorial Army, Royal Auxiliary Air Force, Royal Air Force Reserve, Royal Naval Reserve and Royal Marine Reserve, and members of other government defence forces serving in official exchange appointments.

  • MOD Civilians and MOD Police.

  • Spouses/civil partners of all personnel in Personal Status Category 1.

Dependent children are not eligible for the Scheme. However, children under 3 travel free provided they are with an accompanying adult and do not occupy a separate seat, and children aged 3 to 15 inclusive are eligible for the normal child discount rate (full fare discounted by 50%). Dependants aged 16 to 26 inclusive can purchase the National Express young person’s concession – the NX2 Card - which gives similar benefits to the HM Forces Scheme, through normal National Express channels.

Applications
Access to the Scheme is entirely via the National Express website and is controlled by a Promotional Code, which can be obtained from Admin staff or 2009DIN01-010 . Before ordering your card, you will need to register with National Express, using the link at the top of their website ( www.nationalexpress.com ). Cards will cost £5 and will be valid for 1 year. The card will be able to be used when booking on the National Express website or at any ticket outlet

Passing on the Promotional Code to non-entitled personnel for the purposes of fraudulent misuse constitutes an offence which may result in disciplinary action being taken.
Conditions of use of the MOD Concession
The carriage of passengers is subject to the standard conditions of National Express available at all company agents. All service personnel and their spouses/civil partners are required to abide by the conditions, which include a strict ban on the consumption of alcohol on all services. When travelling on a discounted ticket bought, individuals will be required to produce their Service ID card or a certificate of eligibility, available from Admin Staff, to prove their entitlement to the discounted ticket. This is in addition to showing their Forces’ concession card.

The concession card will entitle the holder only to travel at the current discount fare (a reduction of up to 30% on standard fares) on National Express Coach services in Great Britain. Certain inclusive packages, and special offers are excluded, and any agent of National Express can advise on these exceptions. The card will not entitle holders to discounts on season tickets or reservation fees. They will only be available to be purchased from the National Express website.

Any Service personnel may of course make use of other generally available National Express discounted fares, including the ‘Go Anywhere’ and ‘Funfare’, instead of using this Scheme, however such offers cannot be used concurrently with the MOD Discount. National Express also offers savings to those aged 16-26, those aged over 60, full-time students and families with children.

Any queries or problems with the use of the scheme should be directed in the first instance to Unit Administrative Offices, who should consult Chief Clerk, PS10(A) if they are unable to deal with the query. National Express should not be contacted directly.
