Annual Leave & Travel

All personnel are entitled to 30 working days per annum (these do not include weekends). All annual leave is on full pay. Most weekends will be free, as will the public holidays, except for shift workers to whom the equivalent time off is given at a convenient point. Sometimes a unit will close down for a period of "block leave". It is not always possible for your spouse to take leave exactly when you want to - and occasionally, leave has to be cancelled due to operational requirements. As a result, it is always worthwhile insuring against cancellation when you book a holiday.

Compassionate leave and travel can be granted when a serviceman needs time off to sort out serious personal problems - if a parent is very ill for example. This can be extra to the normal allowance. If you find yourself in such a situation contact the administrative or duty staff. If your spouse is overseas or you are away from the unit please contact the Casualty Staff at PMA Innsworth.

Your spouse may be given other periods of extra leave, for example if he is going to or returning from overseas.

If the family is based overseas, there are often schemes to help with the cost of the family holiday. If a married Serviceman is serving in the UK and is separated from his family for Service reasons, he/she may be entitled to an additional allowance to cover additional journeys. The rules can seem complicated but the administrative staff in the Personnel Services Flight will advise you.

Allowances Addional Information: Allowances

When you go away from your usual address, always make sure that someone knows where you are going - tell the Estates Management Officer or ask your spouse to make sure his unit knows. If something goes wrong while you are away, a relative falling ill for example, it could be vital that you can be contacted.
