Citizens' Advice Bureaux (CAB)
Some remote stations have arranged for the local CAB to set up an office on the station, open for a few sessions a week. This offers personnel and their families the full range of services normally only available in towns. The CAB does not charge for its service but, in practice, stations make a contribution from their non-public funds; currently sums of £1000 per annum have been donated - furthermore, the RAF Benevolent Fund give donations of around £5000 per annum to CABs close to major RAF units. The CAB service should be seen as an extension of the information provided by the HIVE rather than being in direct competition. Whilst members of the HIVE organisation receive some training and are provided with a broad spectrum of CAB type information from the Army Families Advice Bureau, itself an accredited CAB, the CAB advisors have undergone extensive and detailed training and are capable of providing in-depth advice to personnel and their families; CABs have established a sound reputation in debt counselling and assisting with individual financial recovery plans.
Getting advice: Local Office or by E-mail If you are seeking advice you can find on-line information at the CAB Adviceguide website. To contact your nearest CAB write, drop-in or telephone during opening hours. Some bureaux can offer advice by email if you are in their locality. CAB websites also give information about local services. Website: http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/
