Domestic Violence

Is there a link between Domestic Violence and Child Abuse?

YES!
It is now evident there are strong links between, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse. Given time, the abuser's violent manner may over-spill from the mother onto the children; but at the very least the children will witness their mothers suffering such abuse and in turn may become abused.

It is estimated that 75-90% of domestic violence incidents in the United Kingdom are witnessed by children ("Domestic Violence: A Health Care Issue? British Medical Association, 1998).

THE ROYAL AIR FORCE POLICE OPERATES A 'POSITIVE ACTION' ATTITUDE TOWARDS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND, AS SUCH, IT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

Some abusers threaten that if their partner leaves or tells anyone about the violence, their children will be taken away from them. Social Services will not take children away for this reason. If you fear your partner will abduct the children you should seek advice. Your local Women's Aid Group, Law Centre, Citizens Advice Bureau or a solicitor can advise on issues such as parental responsibilities, where children should live, who they should have contact with, changes of school and related problems.
